Shooting stars have nothing to do with stars. Shooting stars are really little pieces of dust and rock. What happens is the little pieces of dust or rock, find its way to the Earth. When the pieces of rock come to the earth they start to burn. Sometimes Earth travels through meteor showers causing the rocks to come into the earth and start to burn. Even though they seem dangerous the rock usually completely burns before reaching the earth. Stars never actually come out of the sky. The stars can reach about 2,800,000,000 wide, which causes them to be seen clearly. So when you see a "shooting star" it gives off the same glowing effect that the stars have.
